I love the imperfections of nature's designs. After college I earned a living doing architectural design and illustration. The work was challenging, and it taught me how to be detailed and observant. It became a stepping stone toward more creative expressions. I was drawn toward the beauty and the meaning of natural abstraction. My passion for nature, in all forms, continues to be strong. Each leaf, cloud, animal, and human figure has its own uniqueness. My early attempts at creating art were very much about the figure, and portraiture. I moved away from this to explore other aspects of the natural world. I have recently found myself returning to the figure as a vehicle to explore, understand, and express what I see to be true about art, and psychology, and how they interact. I believe my latest series of figures combines all my passions, and allows me to continue my romance with nature. When I paint a portrait I attempt to integrate the technical with the emotional. I love a beautifully rendered face, and that becomes my focus. At the same time I want to portray an interior beauty, to make a connection with the humanity and personality of the sitter. If a portrait is successful it conveys a moment, an attitude, a mood, and a story.
